REFLECTIONS

Untitled

This photo is an intense portrait of Emma Smith taken in the darkroom. It was taken using professional portrait lighting methods and then edited in Photoshop to dramatically increase the contrast and make it more interesting. Around her head was darkened using the burn tool in Photoshop, changing the background from a light color to almost black. Emma covering her mouth and staring directly into the camera creates a dramatic image, despite the focal point in the center. This photograph is successful because of its simplicity of subject matter, and because of the quality of the image.

This photograph is a close up on small tubes of paint in art class. The photograph displays a little bit of field of depth by strong focal point and the background being blurred out. The focal point is off to the side which creates an interesting composition. The direction of the paint tubes also creates interesting leading lines which guide the viewer's eyes. The photograph also displays strong contrast. It was edited in Photoshop to be more vibrant and to increase the contrast even further. All of these combined creates a successful photograph.

This photograph was taken of light pink tulips at Longwood Gardens on a field trip. It displays strong field of depth having a clear focal point in the foreground of the photo with a blurred out background. The photo was enhanced slightly in Photoshop to be have more vibrant shades of greens and pinks. It is a very successful photograph it is a high quality image that is interesting to look at. The focal point is off to the sides which helps to make it more visually appealing. Also, flowers are just pretty.

This photograph is a portrait of Emma Smith that was taken at Ott’s Exotic Plants before prom. The photo is visually interesting because it follows the Rule of Thirds (kind of). The subject matter of Emma holding the chain is also interesting, as well as having a background of flowers that frame her. The photo was slightly enhanced in Photoshop, making her eyes a little more green and altering the flowers in the background from purple to pink. The contrast was enhanced a little bit. This is a successful photograph because of its quality and its interesting subject matter.

Untitled

This is another photograph that was taken at Longwood Gardens on a school field trip. The subject matter is of blue and purple flowers. This photograph also displays field of depth through the strong focal point in the foreground and a blurred out background. This photo was slightly enhanced in Photoshop to make the blue and purple color in the flowers even more intense and vibrant than it was before. I also enhanced the contrast. This is a successful photograph because it is a quality photograph and because again, flowers are just really pretty.
